Why planning is important for your photos

Uncategorized Nov 11, 2020

I am so excited for the Dessert Photography Course is now finally available for everyone to purchase. I am receiving overwhelming testimonies from some of my students who have already implemented some of the strategies they learned. I warm my heart to see their success, and I know their photography skills will improve as they grow.

I want to share my top three favorite modules within the Dessert Photography course:

  1. Planning
  2. Night Photography
  3. Editing

Now there are other great modules within the program. However, I wanted to let you know why they're my favorite.  I'll start with planning first.

Planning:

Planning is a very crucial part when it comes to taking orders. Planning allows us to utilize a calendar/planner to determine if we have the bandwidth to accept an order. It also allows some people to plan out the entire week/month's worth of work, down to the days where we complete specific tasks. But a common thing I noticed amongst our community is that most of us neglect to add time for photos.

Have you ever said any of the following?

"But the cake I made was beautiful in person."

or

"My cake was not this dark in real life."

or

"OMG! I can't believe this photo is blurry."

or

"I should have taken the picture outside of the box."

I've been there plenty of times.

That is why I have a module dedicated to planning for your photos. The module covers how you can add photography into your schedule, even if you only have 10-15 minutes to take a picture before the customer picks up. You can get a great looking photo within 10-15 minutes if you plan it right and do the steps I teach during the demos.

Some things to keep in mind when planning your baking schedule:

  1. you want to know exactly when the customer will pick up their cake to know when and how much time to carve out for taking photos.
  2. If you are completing the dessert at night and the customer picks up in the morning, you can either take the photos at night or early in the morning before the customer shows up.

I cover these suggestions and much more in the planning module of the course.

Next blog post, I will share why my second favorite module from the course is Night Photography.

Until then, stay safe and let me know if you have any questions.
